The illusivefish-interview

Name: Nick Hunter

Band name: Theillusivefish

Is that a meaning to the band name?

The name is a username I created when I was 12 (20 years ago), I’ve used it in various forms over the years and my Instagram was one of them when I set it up. It’s a combination of me trying to be cool and trying to own the fact some of the kids at school called me “fish lips”

How long have you been playing?

I first picked up a bass when I was about 12/13

.

What music means to you?

Freedom and a way to send a message and connect with people, and just a way to have a damn good time.

.

In one of the songs you say is something that I need to do, is that a meaning to that? Like a purpose?

I’ve never really been able to get away from the fact that fundamentally I want to be a gigging and touring musician playing my own songs. It’s like this thing inside me I have to feed. I can’t not do this. I also want to use my music as a platform to support others and bring other artists up of I ever get that far, give other musicians the opportunities I wish I could have now. For example, if I’m ever able to do a headline tour I would want the opening act to be an unheard band I’ve come across and like to put them in front of as many people as possible.

.

What are some of your favorite bands that have most influence in your songs?

I like a lot of bands and artists but if I had to make a short list, Jamie Lenman, Tool, Porcupine Tree, Muse, Nirvana, system of a down, David Bowie.

What touches your soul?

Other showing others kindness and wanting nothing for it. Be it to/from animals or people.

Where can we find your songs?

Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon music.

.

Anything you would like to add?

I have a gig in London 23rd sept, details on my Instagram and various other social media platforms! Also looking for any gigs in London/kent/East Sussex areas!

Father’s Day celebration: The myth is true

I write this at the end of this father’s day on 6/19/2022. Today besides father’s day is a special day for me because in away is also my celebration of beating my childhood trauma using my own method. Back in 2016 my soul was screaming for a change and I really thought I was going to become a life coach with my ironman background. So, I started writing my method but I felt like a hypocrite because first there is no magic formula. Second I was a mess.

The only formula that really works for everyone is attitude, but even attitude needs some method. I mean, action with no purpose is like going nowhere fast. Action with purpose will lead you to growth and in order to do that you need to work at the core of things. That is how the C.O.R.E method was born, which stands for change, optimize, reconnect and exceed.

I applied C.O.R.E method to my own depression and it worked. Today was actually the launching of my “life coaching”. As I said, the only way to coach is leading by example, and now all the pieces are together and this is how it works:

  • Punkaste the book of revelations is the story of my trauma (the only thing not free – available on amazon).
  • Free philosophy e-books in my blog with a lot of the things I learned in my journey.
  • Punkaste TV on YouTube with interviews, rituals, unusual things I did, and the most important part where I share my musical experience (my healing and moving forward from childhood trauma).

Having said that today was the kick off with 4 videos.

My Change!

My optimize!
My reconnect!
My exceed!

Episode 8: Rock your boat dance ritual – Air Guitar!

The birth of a dream, that is how this song feels. I remember the day I thought about this song, I have just arrived from coaching swim and my son Luke was doing physical therapy and he was listening to Row your boat. My first thought was, “that is not a workout song”, specially from someone that came with a purpose of overcoming something. Well, that is what it says in Luke’s birth astral map anyways. So, I did what every Dad would do, I switch the station, to Punk rock and metal.

After going around the world 4.25 times with more 171 000 km accumulated between training and racing ironman; I realized Luke needed some songs to workout, and motivate him to keep following his dreams. Not only Luke by kids in general. That is when I decided to make my running partner (my air guitar) into a real music. Yes, I did inumerous run listening to metal and punk playing my air guitar like a crazy person. What can I say, that was the best part of doing ironman.

Here it is, Episode 8: Rock your boat dance ritual – air guitar!

Episode 6: Testimonials

This episode gives the kick off of my conspiracy, and here is the testimonials from the band members. It has been a long journey into accepting myself and doing the art I always wanted to do: Music, which for me music is life magic! This one, and most likely from now on, only English version. Here it is episode 6.

Rock your boat

Truth is, when I decided to write my book one of my motivation was so that parents could possibly understand their misfit child. But I also wanted to motivate people to follow their dreams, however is not any dream.

Let’s be honest, I am no Tony Ribbons, cause I am no guru. I am not a Dalai Lama, meaning I am not a monk. I am no priest. Neither I am a hero, I just like to keep it real. Having said that I am good at some things when it comes to all that: Attitude!

But what is my attitude? This is no joke. My book is literally about dreams, like real dreams that actually had. Meaning, those dreams weren’t about money or fame, they were real vivid dreams that I decided to follow and that stated opening doors in my life. What I am trying to say is that the attitude is of doing even with all odds against me.

Truth being said by, in theory going crazy, and deciding to follow a dream, lead me to connect a bunch of dots in my life. Gave purpose to my pain, and made me realize that the native Americans were right in so many things. One of them is the theory that dreams can guide or save someones soul.

Nobody really understands a dream, and maybe a dream is not meant to be understood, but is meant to be followed. I honestly believe if the dreams are from your heart, you cannot go wrong. Therefore Rock your boat, life is about following your dreams….
